The K.R.A. Kempsville Red Sox are in their 3rd regular season. The Red Sox started as a 2004 KRA senior expansion team named the KRA Tides. The team was steered by Coach Stone and Coach Steve. The Tides won the city championship that year.

In 2005 Coach Bob McCarthy from the Kempsville Pony Baseball League was asked to manage a KRA senior team. Coach Steve from the Tides joined Coach Bob along with eight players from the KRA Tides for the 2005 season. Four new players and one player from the dissolved KRA Yankees also joined the team. The Tides were renamed the Red Sox. The Red Sox lost two players during the season. They lost Nino because he quit high school ball to play for Coach Bob, which is against city league rules. They lost David, a pitcher, because he skipped a grade and was in college though he was only 18. Rules say a player must be in high school or below and 18 or under. Dispite the loss, the Red Sox still made the championship playoffs. Due to a rain out we were rescheduled to a different game night. The regular catcher could not get off work and two other players were unable to play that night, so they played with eight players. Between the nineth player out and a missing outfielder we lost by one point.

KRA does not have a fall senior league, so Coach Bob took seven players from the Red Sox including Nino and David as a KRA team to Kempsville Pony and drafted 6 KPB players as required and formed the Kempsville River Cats. The River Cats went the entire season losing only one game. Beside the KPB teams we also played the Catholic High and Great Bridge High School j.v. and varsity teams. When the season was over, the Great Bridge High team asked Kempsville Pony if the River Cats would play a post season game at their field. The River Cats played them and won by 2 runs.
